New York’s push towards crypto mining facilities is the extension of the state’s broader effort to cut back greenhouse gasoline emissions by 85% by 2050. Lawmakers additionally plan on reaching net-zero emissions in all sectors of the financial system by that point.

Current facilities could be exempt from this moratorium, however they may want permission from the New York State Division of Environmental Conservation to proceed to function.
